The black honey lunar period, The eclips of the last month chaitra in Bengali calendar, the thirteenth of the dark. A lot of people gather in the orakandi village for Baruni snan in kasiani in Gopalganj district. People from different part of Bangladesh are coming towards orakandi thekur’s house. They are clanking, sounding with conch and drums and screeming Hori name with red flag in their hand.
The orakandi fair is named after the orakandi village also known as matua
fair.this fair is arranged by the matua sect as their religious vew.in the mid nineteenth century this religious thought arises in faridpur district now part of Gopalganj district.Horichad Thakur(1812-1878) the founder of this religion borns in the 11th march of 1812 in safaldanga village in lower cast family of hindu community. He established a temple and from then orakandi is famous to matua.sect.The followers of Harichand Thakur come to remember their master’s birth day.
They walks under the burning sun, they suffer in hunger, they awake sleepless night only with enchanting the name of Hari they forget everything. when they touch the soil of their master the lovers forehead just bow down. the worshiper come in front of the idol of their master and his wife. They dance with the drams and want to forget the world. their excitement increase with the bit. they stars to cry remembering their past and greet their brothers .all day and all night they just try to devote themselves under the feet of the master. when get tired some of them get sleep in the open field. the very next morn the followers prepare for the holy bath .their believe for virtue inspire them to collect the holy water after complete the bath in the pond and also they wish thier dream will come true and all the sorrows will wash away. they go back with a spiritual believe with new hope.
